1. What is a Nickname NFT?
Nickname NFTs transform your character's name into a unique, tradable digital asset.
Unlike traditional nicknames that are bound to a single character, a Nickname NFT is an independent asset you truly own. This means you can hold onto it, swap it between characters, or trade it freely with other Maplers on the Marketplace. Now's your chance to own that cool, rare nickname you've always wanted!
On-chain vs. Off-chain Nicknames
Off-chain Nickname: This is the standard nickname your character uses in-game. It is not an NFT and cannot be traded. Rest assured, no one else can create or mint a nickname identical to your off-chain nickname.
On-chain Nickname: This is a nickname that has been converted into an NFT through a process called "minting." It's registered as a digital asset on the blockchain, stored safely in your Nickname Inventory, and can be traded on the Marketplace.
2. Changing Your Nickname and Minting an NFT
When you change your character's name, you have the option to convert your old nickname into a tradable NFT. Here’s how it works:
2.1. Starting the Nickname Change Process
To begin, head to the character selection screen.
Select the minted character whose nickname you wish to change.
In the character information window on the right, click the Change Name button.
2.2. Choosing a New Nickname
Next, you'll decide on your character's new name. You have two options: Create New Name or Use Existing Name.
Create New Name : Enter a new name to create a standard, off-chain nickname.
Use Existing Name : Select a Nickname NFT you already own, either from a previous mint or a Marketplace purchase.
2.3. Minting Your Current Nickname into an NFT
This is the most important step: deciding the fate of your current nickname.
This option only appears if your current nickname is an off-chain (non-tradable) name.
Mint then Replace : This option converts your current nickname into a valuable NFT by paying a minting fee. The newly minted NFT will be sent to your Nickname Inventory, ready to be used again later or sold on the Marketplace.
Delete then Replace : This option will permanently delete your current nickname. It will not be converted into an NFT. Choose carefully, especially if your nickname is rare or special, as this action is irreversible.
2.4. Final Confirmation
If you chose to mint your nickname, a final confirmation window will appear showing a breakdown of the fees. Review the details carefully, then press [Confirm] to proceed.
You can track the minting process in real-time via the on-chain notifier at the bottom-left corner of your screen.
※ Important Notes
You cannot mint a character's nickname within the first 24 hours after the character itself has been minted.
Once you change a character's nickname, you must wait 30 days before changing it again.
Your first nickname change fee is waived if you perform it within 7 days of minting a new character.
In this case, the 'Change Fee' will be displayed as free. However, However, the 'Minting Fee' for converting your old nickname into an NFT is a separate charge.
3. Trading Nicknames on the Marketplace
Nicknames that have been minted into NFTs can be bought and sold freely on the Marketplace.
